Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine utilises natural methods to enhance the body’s ability to repair itself, maintain health and prevent illness.  It treats the individual holistically.

Initial appointments last 60-90 minutes, subsequent appointments 45-60 minutes.  A comprehensive history is taken, and diagnosis determined through questioning, assessment of the points and channels, as well as taking the pulse.

Treatment commonly takes the form of Acupuncture & Moxibustion for external problems (injuries and pain) or Chinese Herbal Medicine or internal conditions (illnesses and general health).

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles at specific points on the body’s channels to regulate circulation and flow of Qi (Chi) ’Energy’. This in turn nourishes the body tissues and harmonises function. Moxibustion therapy involves warming these same points with a heated herbal preparation. The needles used are single-use disposable.

The first Chinese Medical manual, ‘The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic’ from over 2000 years ago indicates Acupuncture and Moxibustion can be used to alleviate acute and chronic conditions including –

  • Headache and stiff neck
  • Shoulder, elbow and wrist problems
  • Back and hip pain
  • Knee and foot injuries
  • Arthritis

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine uses a variety of plant, mineral and some animal products to alleviate illness.

Animal products used include some shells and bone preparations and are only prescribed upon agreement with the user.  No endangered species are used.

Traditionally the medicinal substances are boiled as tea or ground into powders allowing the flexibility to tailor a prescription to the individual.

The first clinical manual on the use of Chinese Herbal Medicine dates from around 2000 years ago. The ‘Treatise on Cold Damage’ includes treatment for a number of conditions including –

  • Respiratory & Cardiovascular problems
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety, Insomnia
  • Skin conditions
  • Women’s health and pregnancy
